Ran across this paperback cover art of Arthur C. Clarkes wonderful Islands In The Sky. For me the illustration evokes a pleasantly weird nostalgia for a future that never was.
All long before the realities of space travel intruded with cosmic ray exposure, micrometeroid space debris, bone density loss and fluid re-distribution. Not to mention the (ehem) messy mechanics of going to the toilet in zero G. The future never looked so good.
Oh, love the truth in advertising label at the bottom, ‘A Science Fiction Novel’, obviously included just in case the casual reader didn’t pick up on the guy in a spacesuit orbiting the earth 🙂
